Shot:DNA vs Shotistics

Smartwatch sensor shot tracking

Shotistics reads your shooting from motion sensors on a smartwatch. Shot:DNA reads it from your intent: one earbud press for a make, two for a miss. Nothing has to guess whether that arm swing was a jumper, a pass or a rebound — you already told it, in under a second, without looking at a screen.

Where Shotistics wins. A watch is genuinely more passive: you shoot and it counts attempts without you doing anything. If you already wear a compatible watch every session and only want a rough volume number, that is a fair trade. Shot:DNA asks for a press and gives you the make/miss split, the spot, a coach in your ear and a whole coached library in return.

What you actually get

A library that keeps growing

Hand-picked coaches publish drills, workouts and multi-week programs inside Shot:DNA, in their own voice. That means the drill is run for you — intro, each step, the calls, the rest, the recap — instead of you reading a plan off a screen between reps. New coaches and new programs land continuously, so there is always another block to run.

Reps that count for something

Mission turns your shooting into a game: daily runs across ten courts, Respect for every session, streaks, rivals, ghost runs of your past self, a card binder and a leaderboard. It exists for one reason — the shootaround you would have skipped is the one that shows up in your percentages three months later.

Pricing

Shot Mode — live shot counting and spot tracking — is free forever. Mission Pro is $3.99/month, $34/year, or $49 once for a Founder lifetime seat, and adds full history and analytics, streaks, the card binder, rivals and the leaderboard, plus the right to run coaches' public drills, workouts and programs. Shotistics is sold as an app with a paid tier and needs a supported smartwatch; their current pricing lives on their own site.

Why players pick taps

No hardware to buy

No watch, no sensor in the ball, no clip. Earbuds are enough, and most players already have a pair in the bag.

You call make or miss

Sensors infer. A press is a decision. Your percentages come from what actually went in, not from what a motion model thought it saw.

A coach, not just a counter

Shot:DNA runs the whole drill out loud — intro, each step, the calls, the rest, the recap — so you never look down at a wrist.

Questions

Do I need a smartwatch for Shot:DNA?

No. Shot:DNA needs a phone and any earbuds or headphones with a media button. There is no watch app and no extra hardware to buy.

Is pressing distracting while I shoot?

Most players stop noticing it within a session — it is one press on the bud you are already wearing, and the feedback tone confirms it without you looking at the phone.

Can I fix a mis-pressed shot?

Yes. Undo is an on-screen button — deliberately, so a stray earbud press can never erase a rep. Earbuds do two things and only two things: one press is a make, two is a miss. You can also fix a session from the recap.

Does Shot:DNA track spots and not just totals?

Yes. Every rep is tied to a spot, so your session shows where you are actually hot and where you are padding your numbers.

What does Shot:DNA cost?

Shot Mode — live counting and spot tracking — is free forever. Mission Pro ($3.99/month, $34/year, or $49 once for a Founder lifetime seat) adds full session history and analytics, streaks, the card binder, rivals and the leaderboard, and unlocks coaches' public drills, workouts and programs.
